Biology
Welcome to the Biology page were you can find many resources based on the OCR Twenty First Century Science exams.
The Units
In biology there are seven units that you will study in class:
Unit 1 / B1,2,3: You and Your Genes- This unit covers genes, inheritance, testing and treating genetic diseases, cloning and stem cells
Keeping Healthy- This unit covers disease, antibiotics and drug testing, heart disease and keeping a healthy, balanced lifestyle
Life on Earth- This unit covers how species rely on one another, theory of evolution and the importance of biodiversity
You will have an exam which includes elements on these three units!
Unit 2 / B4,5,6: Homeostasis- This unit includes what is homeostasis, the importance of homeostasis, maintaining body temperature and maintaining water balance
Growth and Development- This unit includes cell reproduction, meiosis or mitosis, the importance of genes in growth and developmentand how organisms develop from a single cell
Brain and Mind: This unit includes how organisms respond to changes in the environment, how information is passed through the nervous system, what are reflex actions, how humans learn, the brain and memory and how drugs affect our nervous system
You will also have an exam which includes elements on these three units
Unit 3 / B7: Further Biology
You will also study 'Ideas in Context' and this will be included in your final exam along with elements from Unit 7
As well as these units you will have coursework that makes up 30% of your final grade.
